The key form of the genre embodiment is a detective story, usually constructed to extremely unnatural elements of solving crime (and committing a crime).

A cinematically flawless story (no wonder it was made into a movie): an old math professor needs to be taken care of because he can't remember events for more than eighty minutes. These are the consequences of a terrible car accident. Memory is formed only for this time, after which it rolls back to zero. Only the memories before the car accident remain whole, indestructible - that is, the messy life of many years ago.

For this reason, the professor surrounds himself with countless reminder notes: about the fact that a nurse is taking care of him, that he is so-and-so old, etc. Monolithic metaphor: deprived of memory, the professor appears before us almost as a lucky man. Momentary sorrows remain with him for a short time; and in general - is there any point in remembering this world? The professor spends all his will, all his patience on solving mathematical problems - for which he receives a modest fee; otherwise, he is a tabula rasa, an unwritten ballad.

Nevertheless, we look at this old man through the eyes of an ordinary Japanese woman. Yes - the narrator is surprisingly typical: she works as a nurse, brings up her son, she’s afraid of her loneliness and does not understand how to get rid of sorrows. Her life is so meager that it fits in the plot on a postage stamp.

However, acquaintance with the professor gives rise to an intimate, desperate dual world: turning into passion, exercices de style, the mind of the nurse is captured by mathematics. Here, of course, autobiographical persuasiveness - Ogawa is actually seriously engaged in numbers, has a number of scientific publications. Mathematics in the novel is not a decorative element, but a completely independent character. Watching it is sometimes more exciting than the rest.

Only a few geniuses manage to occupy that rare niche that does not require following the tastes of the crowd or constantly inventing new suitable plots.

Also, a striking feature of modern Japanese literature (and in particular its postmodern canon) is the compactness and intimacy of its works. Cases where the Japanese write unusually large novels in the spirit of Tolstoy or Rolland are as rare as snow in August. The situation is shaped by market demands, which is neither good nor bad. Known rules predetermine trends for many years to come; however, it can already be said that Japanese postmodernism has overcome the rigidity of forms and prototypes. 

We are inescapably surprised by the ideas of the Japanese about the world, their exceptional imagination, which is probably capable of overcoming any artistic obstacles. The art of Asia is ahead of the whole planet, and what we see in Korean cinema, literature in Japan, Taiwan, is a real miracle of the modern clear outlook on culture and the person in it.

### Educational videos

**Usually** these are videos where a teacher formally explains a specific grammar topic.

It doesn’t apply only to educational videos. It also applies to vlog-type of videos and topic-based videos.

If you hear the same phrase **over and over again**, it might be a chance that you will need it too in your speech in future. 

**Write down frequently repeated words.**

**Sometimes**, words don’t work without a context. So, be careful with **word connections**. 

## 3. Practice Using New Vocabulary

Imagine situations when you will probably need those written words and create sentences with them.

There are a few things you can check whether you use those words correctly:

* Google your sentences (Google Translate)

Try to input your request on Google and you might find other option with the same meaning or correct yourself if there is no request with such words put together. 

Be careful! Websites are made by people. They can make mistake as well. 

So, find as many requests with the same words and structure to make sure that the example you input earlier is commonly used.


* Marketplace for tutors and learners (e.g. Preply, Italki)

You can book a lesson with a native speaker and ask them directly: _is it correct to say…? How can I paraphrase it?_ 

Native speakers are **always ready to help** foreigners learn their language. 

**Don’t be afraid of saying anything wrong!** :kissing_face:

* Social networks for language learners (e.g. Tandem, HiNative) 

Text **native speakers** to practice a living language that people actually use on writing.

## 4. Imitate a native speaker’s speech

Hi, my name is Artur and I’m 22 years old Partner Channel Marketing Manager at Microsoft working for a Russian subsidiary.

**In this article**, I want to share my learning path to pursue my dream career in one of the largest corporations on the globe. 

## Changing approach

I was not a very passionate student. Getting my degree in RANEPA in the field of Management/Marketing, I wasn’t really sure that this was the right choice. 

It was 2017 and programming languages were booming: everybody got to know them. **I tried and I failed.** 

I started learning Python on Udemy free courses and couldn’t comprehend a thing! I was frustrated and devastated at the same time. 

“I will never be somewhere around IT!” -, I thought. 

And I’ve decided to change my approach and get laser-focused on my current studies at the university.

## Small steps, big dreams

Quickly I realized that if you can put your mind to something, you’ll eventually grow your expertise. 

I remember Math, Informatics, Business Development, Business English, Management, and Digital Marketing as the cornerstones of my future career. 

I learned that **asking questions is the only way** for me to grasp the concept, and I had to solidify it by getting back to it at home. They say if you don’t know something, perhaps an Indian guy is already teaching it on YouTube. They are great at teaching, by the way, I love them.

So, I was consistently expanding my understanding of fundamentals, step by step getting to my first great learning – working for an international cybersecurity company.

## Hardening soft skills

During my onboarding at Kaspersky, I had to get exceptional at multitasking: a whole lot of new data, first full-time job and I’m still studying. 

At this point, I was not only expanding my hard skills: working in MS Office and other applications, but also getting my soft skills trained. You see, I was green, and I had difficulty conveying my point of view. So, I’ve decided to enroll in my first big course on Coursera devoted to Negotiation. 

Honestly, it was **perfect timing**. I had some issues at work that couldn’t have been solved without this wonderful course. Learning more about the art of negotiation, interconnection and communication allowed me to gain the confidence to move further in my career.

## Shift before the jump

Then I started working for L’Oreal and again, dozens of materials that I had to familiarize myself with. 

At this point, I wanted to start over my programming learning, and I’ve started the course ‘Python for Beginners’ at Stepic. It’s free and interactive, which allowed me to practice more and network, which eventually gave me a deeper understanding. 

Here, I crystallized my approach: study at work on how to get your work better, study at home on how to make your life better. 

As you can see, there is no option that you don’t study. I love learning new and so at that point, I was learning Python, Investing, First Aid, Spanish, and Nutritiology for myself and E-mail Marketing, CRM, SEO, SMM, CJM, and Project Management for my job.

## The Big Stepper and Mr. Nadella

**I got a job offer at Microsoft** after a few months for L’Oreal. 

I’m a non-stopping, never-resting learner and the corporate culture is encouraging this approach. In less than a year I learned more than in the last 3-4 years. 

Courses on Marketing, Management, Resilience, and Project management; badges and certifications in Sustainability, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion and Azure Fundamentals. 

Sometimes, we don’t even notice the learning possibilities a company has to offer, not to mention free and cheap opportunities on the web.

## Preface

Hi there! My name is Bashir. I’m 23 y.o. I am an IOS developer at a large IT company. I’ve been working as a developer for two years, and I’ve already worked at four companies. I have a college degree in the banking sphere and an unfinished higher education. So, let me explain how it all started.
 
### Academic background
 
I finished school and moved to Moscow to get a banking education at the Moscow banking school under the Bank of Russia where I was studying four years. That was the time when I realized that programming is my strong suit. I agree, it’s not the most typical way to get to it. At college, I enjoyed solving mathematical tasks. I did it quite well. Then, I decided to try programming, and I started learning [C++](https://www.edleed.com/catalog?subcategory=Programming+Languages&category=IT+%26+Software&study=C%2B%2B) . 
 
_(I just want to mention that the only programming experience I had was studying Pascal at school.)_
 
I didn’t start learning programming with a book. I used a few websites to take this path. Of course, after passing a few lessons, I got confused and I quit. It went repeatedly. I was sure that there was no chance to master programming without a university. A little later, after I got hired at the bank in a support team in 2018, I met and got to talk to many developers there. It turned out that only one of them had a proper academic degree. Others took courses and studied on their own.

**I got really inspired and decided to change my approach to self-education. At first, I decided to read two books:**

1.   Programming Ruby

This book gave me an understanding of object-oriented programming. It took me two weeks to complete and fully understand the material. 
 
2.   Ruby on Rails Tutorial

The second one was a bit more difficult. There were many professional terms that I didn’t know back then. This book took me 4 MONTHS to finish. Then, I realized that I didn’t manage to work as a support specialist and study programming as much as I wanted simultaneously. 

### How I found a job
 
My goal was to find a job and work as a developer. I made a small project and began the search. I couldn’t find anything after 3 months and quit programming because of the university which I got into in 2019. I took a little break and started over during the summer of 2020. I wanted to understand which field of programming to choose.
 
Actually, iOS development interested me from the very beginning. The reason why I didn’t go for it then was the fact that I had a weak Macbook Air 2015. So, the equipment needed to be more productive to write a code. For a while, It took me away from immersion in iOS programming.
 
I switched over to [Machine Learning](https://www.edleed.com/catalog/subject/Computer%20Science?study=Machine+Learning)  and [Data Science](https://www.edleed.com/catalog?category=IT+%26+Software&subcategory=Data+Science)  but eventually I didn't enjoy ML for some reason.
 
In the middle of October, I started iOS over again. This time, I was dedicated to it. I read a book on Swift and tried to code. This book got me so excited, so I finished it in terms of one week. In February, I found my first job! Don’t think that it was easy! I sent my portfolio to a fair number of companies and got rejected over and over again. Then, two companies invited me for an interview and only one of them offered me a job. The huge disadvantage of that job was that I didn’t have a mentor. So, I got stuck.
 
Having been working there for 5 months, I decided to change job. Finally, I found a job at the Mobile Development Studio where I was working as an iOS developer. As a team, we were always sharing thoughts about tech and different approaches to problem-solving. By the way, there were no senior developers at the Studio. So, we educated ourselves by finding solutions and discussing them on our own.
 
Well, I quit that job and found another interesting opportunity to grow. I got hired at Yandex as a Mobile Developer. Now, I’m working here and I’m very happy about it. At the same time, I’m still studying something new. I watch online conferences and read many articles and books to enhance my knowledge even more.
