The Complete Painter: Lessons from the Masters

This course was very thorough and very engaging. I have recommended it to my friends.

This is a very detailed course using oil paints. You will go through this course slowly as there are a lot of exercises to practice to develop your skill. I use acrylic paints and this course is very helpful

I learned many things from this course that I didn't learn in an MFA in Fine Arts painting. The course leaves no stone unturned.

The Complete Painter course taught me so much. I've always wanted to take art classes, but life got in the way of that goal. The Great Courses have made it easy for me to fulfill a lifetime goal of learning to paint. The course starts at the beginning and walks you through each step of learning essential painting skills. The Instructor makes it fun and takes out the intimidation of learning skills that an expert would excel at. I liked that I could work on the lessons at my own pace and that the Instructor encouraged us to use our creative ideas in the project. My one recommendation is to provide the source subjects as an attached document to the course content so that a student could easily print the jpg to use when painting the project. The booklet includes the image but does not include it as a separate attachment, so it takes a bit of copy/paste work.

There’s something for everyone in this well thought out and orchestrated painting course. The hands on instruction performed by Professor David Brody, and the visual examples of many paintings is a welcome change from lecture only.

“The Complete Painter: Lessons from the Masters” covers many aspects of painting from beginner to more advanced levels, from the history of visual art to the chemistry of modern pigments. Professor Brody seems to have strong preferences for some artists that may not appeal to everyone (maybe some modern art is more of an acquired taste), but the course has much valuable basic information as well as specific tips and demonstrations. It emphasizes the development of technical skills by focusing on details and copying other artworks from templates, perhaps assuming a personal style of self-expression will naturally reveal itself.

Haven't had enough time to thoroughly go over all the material but have always been satisfied with quality and customer service. Materials always packed well with quick delivery.

I have completed both the drawing and painting coursed given by Professor Brody. I highly recommend that serious students complete the drawing course first, then the painting course. Both courses take a lot of commitment, both in terms of time and focus, but I found that my art projects have dramatically improved. I completed the drawing course in a year and a half, and the painting course in a year. If you're serious about your artistic career, I recommend that you do the same.
