Overview

I believe the difference between a professional and an amateur logo is clear communication. The key isn’t in advanced techniques or fancy software, it’s actually in the fundamentals of design. This class will guide you through the process of creating a stunning, professionallogo.

In this class, I’m taking us right down to the fundamentals so even if you have no prior experience designing a logo, you can follow along. It's not software specific - so as long as you’re not planning to use MS paint - you should be ok! It’s perfect for beginners, and I’ve created a workbook to help keep you on track throughout the process. So you can follow along even if you’re not a designer; perhaps you’re a creative who wants to take the next step in self-branding, or maybe a proud business owner looking to upgrade your image... if so, this is the class for you.

What’s the most important component of a brand’s identity? The logo. Why? It’s sometimes referred to as the cornerstone of a brand; the most memorable part of it.

Though it’s just one piece of the brand identity process, it’s the first element we ‘create’, and often it decides the success of the rest of the project, as well as a key deliverable from a client’s perspective. Every other element of the brand identity you create will stem from this crucial starting point.

The key to a successful logo is its ability to communicate on behalf of a brand. To indicate the way it functions, what it does, who it’s for and why they should care. It can feel overwhelming to translate a range of values and messages into a tangible logo. You can’t communicate everything. Some messages are better left for other elements of a brand’s identity. Some work best when only hinted at in a very subtle way - others are great choices for an obvious, literal part of your logo.

When you understand some of the underlying reasons, you’ll realise you can achieve clear and effective messaging in a logo.

This class will show you how:

1)Without establishing the values and messages for a brand, it’s almost impossible to create a logo that does anything more than ‘look pretty’. We’ll outline the details you can cover in your research and strategy before you get creating.

2)We’ll look at how our visual perception and sequence of cognition shape our audiences experience when they view a logo - and how designers can use this to their advantage. For example, the order in which we process visual information; shape, colour, and finally detail.

3)We’ll bring these elements together, leveraging our understanding of visual perception to clearly communicate through the logo. Doing this, we’ll actually control what people think and feel when they look at the logo.

4)We’ll also learn how you can manage your client’s expectations and avoid a potential rookie mistake; attempting to communicate ALL a brands messages through the logo.

By the time you finish this class, you’ll know exactly how to ensure your logo falls comfortably into the ‘professional’ category! I can't wait to see what you're able to create. See you in class!
